Widowmaker's boys!

   Another warband of Orc warriors is ready for action. The leader of this group is the Widowmaker, conversion of a non-GW miniature. Most of the warriors are conversions as well. The  warband consists of a taskmaster, a drummer, a shaman, a banner-bearer and some swordsmen and spearmen. Among the warriors, there are some old Ral Partha miniatures. Below you can see them and first of all, the Widowmaker. I have already explained how I converted him here.

The Widowmaker

   The Widowmaker grabs the poor Warrior of Minas Tirith by his hair. Of course, the hair is made of greenstuff and the bare head belonged to a Corsair. It would be impossible to depict what I wanted with a head covered with Minas Tirith helmet. 

   The banner-bearer and the sceleton are old Ral Partha miniatures. I found the idea to decorate the flagpole with a sceleton torso on a photo of a Wargames Illustrated issue. This photo shows the miniature of a German banner-bearer of the Teutoburg Forest battle in 9AD. The flag is the usual aluminium foil.

   The Shaman's body belonged to the third Werewolf, the one which now has a Warrior of Minas Tirith body. The Shaman's head is Lurtz's who is now an  Uruk-hai Shaman. The trophy head comes from the plastic Troll set and the staff is a Ral Partha ancient Egyptian banner.

Warg Riders (The Brown Pack 2)

   This is the last post of the Warg Riders. Below you can see the Captain and the Banner-bearer. Both are conversions made of various miniature parts. I have already posted how I had made the flag, so I will write a few words about the Captain only.

   The Captain has a Warrior of Minas Tirith's torso and arms, an orc spearman's head, a Corsair's sword and an orc archer's bow and quiver. Below you can see the summation of all these. To tell you the truth I am happy with the final result. The poor fellow whose head is hanging from the Captain's saddle is an archer Corsair of Umbar!

Khandish Charioteers WIP (Part 4)

   The construction of the chariots is ready! Below you can see all three of them and the king's base as well. I forgot to mention that the whole project is a present for a friend. I have finished my part of the job and now it is his turn to prime and paint them.

   I made an alternative 25mm base for the King because I had only one miniature of him. I used cork to give the base some height for the King to be able to stand  on it with the paper clips underneath his soles. I drew red marks for his feet, the rest base will be  covered with mulliput. He is not glued on his chariot, so it is possible to set him on both, the chariot and the base. This way he can lead not only his chariots but his infantry as well.

   Though the King's chariot is glued to its base I decided to secure it even better in order not to have problems with pulling him out. I used thin metallic wires to fasten the pole to the yoke and the wheels to the base. Now I can be sure that the chariot will stay at its place.

   The last thing I did was smoothening of the annoying "step" between the horses' bases and the plastic ones with the help of mulliput.

Khandish Charioteers WIP (Part 3)

   Two of the three chariots are ready. Below I try to explain what I have done since the previous post, step by step. As I have already said, I did not make yokes. Instead, I used simple paper clips to hold the pair of horses on their bases together.

   I used yellow-grey mulliput for the chariot floors. I put an extra paper clip on the top of King's chariot frame. The reason I did this was to secure the two flags, with which I plan to decorate King's chariot.

   Every horse had a hole on its rear right side. I used greenstuff to fill these holes.

   Furthermore, I used two flags and an asian chinese shield to distinquish the King's chariot. I used greenstuff which I gave a fur appearance to cover every chariot frame. One of the two Variags has a bow while the other has an axe. I put a bow and a quiver to the later's chariot, so that every charioteer has a bow.

   In order to place the charioteers on their proper places in the chariots I painted the clips with red colour and touched the floors marking their positions. After that, I drilled holes where the marks were.

   With all these done, two chariots are ready for painting.
