Red Army flamethrowers and Wiesbaden

    Flamethrowers are a very frightful weapon in real life. In Bolt Action players are also fearful of flamethrowers because hits from such weapons allow no cover saves. This means that units can be eliminated easily.

   I have three flamethrower teams of two men each. All teams are Warlord Games models.

  Two of the models carrying the flamethrower are the same. I used green amoeba pattern camouflage and a shapka ushanka for the one, while brown amoeba pattern and a helmet for the other in order to make them look different.

   Below you can see some photos of Wiesbaden. Wiesbaden is the capital of the German state of Hesse. It is located very close to Frankfurt. It is a very nice city.

Soviet Medics

    Combat medics are responsible for providing emergency medical treatment at a point of wounding in a combat. Geneva convention protects these trained medical personnel as non-combatants in the act of rendering aid. In Bolt Action medics may be considered by many people as useless and therefore are not so popular but they are nice miniatures!

Doctor, nurse and stretcher bearer

   Matryona Necheporchukova was a combat medic of the Red Army who rescued 250 wounded soldiers and officers during WW2. She was awarded the Order of Glory 1st Class.

   Combat medics carry small arms, to be used to protect themselves and the wounded in their care.

   To make the stretcher I cut the blades of two plastic spears, glued the shafts together and wrap them with foil.

   Recently, we walked the Sarakina gorge. It is an easy one. No need for medics to rescue us!

Soviet officers and blog's 13th birthday

    General Chuikov of Soviet 62nd Army and three more Soviet officers are ready to lead my Bolt Action Soviet army. From what we know so far, there are two rank options for officers in Bolt Action 3rd edition, the Platoon Commander (2nd Lt and 1st Lt) and the Company Commander (Captain and Major). Probably, I will need some more officers for all my Soviet platoons.

Soviet Light Machine Gun (LMG) Squads

   The DP-27/DP-28 was the primary light machine gun of the Red Army during WW2. It had a rate of fire of 550rpm, which was low as compared to its main wartime rivals, the German MG-34/MG-42. These German light machine guns had a rate of 800-1500rpm and because of this the German army special rule in Bolt Action allows them to fire one extra shot, five shots in total instead of four shots of the Soviet LMGs. 

   My army has two LMG squads. Each of them consists of twelve men, which are one NCO armed with submachine gun, two soldiers with LMGs, two loaders and seven riflemen. Some of the miniatures are metal of the Red Army box while the rest are plastic of the Soviet Infantry box. Both boxes are Warlord Games products.

    My Red Army box had double miniatures of two riflemen. Also, it had another rifleman with a beard. So, in order to avoid having two couples of the same miniatures I gave to one rifleman of each couple a beard.
