Khandish Charioteers WIP (Part 3)

   Two of the three chariots are ready. Below I try to explain what I have done since the previous post, step by step. As I have already said, I did not make yokes. Instead, I used simple paper clips to hold the pair of horses on their bases together.

   I used yellow-grey mulliput for the chariot floors. I put an extra paper clip on the top of King's chariot frame. The reason I did this was to secure the two flags, with which I plan to decorate King's chariot.

   Every horse had a hole on its rear right side. I used greenstuff to fill these holes.

   Furthermore, I used two flags and an asian chinese shield to distinquish the King's chariot. I used greenstuff which I gave a fur appearance to cover every chariot frame. One of the two Variags has a bow while the other has an axe. I put a bow and a quiver to the later's chariot, so that every charioteer has a bow.

   In order to place the charioteers on their proper places in the chariots I painted the clips with red colour and touched the floors marking their positions. After that, I drilled holes where the marks were.

   With all these done, two chariots are ready for painting.

Warg Riders (The Brown Pack 1)

   The fourth and final pack is the brown one. Five warg riders, three of them are conversions. One Captain, one Kettledrummer and one Banner-bearer are converted by using different parts of various miniatures. Below you can see two warriors and the Kettledrummer.

   The torso and the right arm come from an orc miniature like the one below, the left arm comes from a warg rider archer (he is the banner-bearer now), the drumsticks are paper clips, the drums are pen lids and the drums skin is aluminium foil.

Khandish Charioteers WIP (Part 2)

   The three chariots start to take shape. I did a few changes to the initial plan, for example, I did not use the 35mm film plastic tube, nor the balsa wood. I took some photos and I will try to explain step by step what I have done so far. Below you can see the chariots as they are at the moment:

   Let's start. When I placed the mongol horses on the GW bases, a problem occured. Bases of one of the two types of horses extended from the round GW base. To face this problem I had to cut the metallic bases, which I did and now only the front foot of these horses extends. The result is not bad at all, I think.  

   As I have already said, I did not use the film tube. Instead, I used a couple of plastic gum boxes. These boxes became the chariots. I cut the box 1cm from the bottom and then I split it into two halves. 

   I used another plastic gum box for the king's chariot. This one I cut 2cm from the bottom and because I needed just one chariot this time, the vertical cut was not exactly in the middle. So the king's chariot is a little bit longer than the previous two.  

   Then I drilled holes on the chariot frames to place the axes. The axes are paper clips which I cut at proper size, around 3cm.

   When I glued them, I had to place them at proper height, for the wheels to be glued at the right position. I used a couple of tools as supports for that reason.

   I used three metallic rods for the chariot poles, which I decorated with halberds' tops. I will not make yokes but I will place the poles at the right height by using some pins.

   Finally, I cut the bases from the three warrior miniatures, drilled holes on their feet  and placed pins. Pins will keep the warriors stand inside the chariots. I will make an extra infantry base for the king because I have only one such miniature. So, I will not glue him on the chariot to be easily removed and put on a 25mm base.

Warg Riders (The Yellow Pack)

   The third warg pack is the yellow one. There are two heroes among the Riders this time, Golfimbul and a Shaman. I gave to every rider a shield to increase their D values, the three are original GW shields, while Golfimbul's is a celtic shield and the fifth is an Esci 1/72 WWII traffic sign, to which I added two "metallic" ribs of greenstuff. I changed also the upper part of the Shaman's staff with the spearhead of a Minas Tirith Warrior's spear. I used the upper part of the staff to convert an Uruk-hai scout to a Shaman of the Ugluk's boys!

Warg Riders (The Red Pack)

   Another warg pack is the Reds. Below you can see Gothmog and four Riders on the red-brown wargs. I gave Gothmog a shield to increase his D value. Not much of conversions this time, except for a shield which I made of greenstuff. The red colour of the wargs is GW Vermin Brown as the base colour,  washed with The Army Painter Strong Tone and highlighted with GW Vermin Brown again. The mane is highlighted with GW Bleached Bone.
