Wood Elf Sentinels and Santillana del Mar

   The Wood Elf Sentinels blister was a present from good friends some months ago. The Sentinels are very nice miniatures and according to GW, they are warriors who wander the paths far from Elven settlements. Many carry lutes or pipes on their vigils and their music is interwoven with magical verse, each refrain crafted to either beguile, repel or embolden, depending on the need.

   Next stop of our trip was Santillana del Mar, one of the most beautiful historic towns of Cantabria, Spain. Its many historic buildings attract thousands of holidaymakers every year.

   There is an old saying that Santillana del Mar is The Town of Three Lies, since it is neither a Saint (Santo), nor flat (llana), nor is it by the sea (Mar) as implied by its name. However, the name actually derives from Santa Juliana (or Santa Illana) whose remains are kept in the Colegiata, a Romanesque church and former Benedictine monastery.

More trees

   Four easy to make trees from balsa wood and kitchen scrubbers are ready.

   I cut two 12cm pieces of 5mm balsa wood and two 15cm pieces of 10mm. Then I glued them to 50mm MDF bases. 

   I bought some cheap green kitchen scrubbers. Each bag has ten of them, more than enough to have a forest! I cut various cycles from the scrubbers and glued them to the trunks. Then I trimmed them around to give them more natural look to a tree.

   After that I sprayed the scrubbers with permanent adhesive and sprinkled dark forest grass on them.

   I used white repairing filler to make the trunks. Finally, I glued some little rocks and sand to the bases, painted them and added some grass.

Signs

   Four Soviet and one German easy to make WWII signs are my recent terrain pieces. 

   Once I found in my mother's attic an old box of ESCI in 1/72, which was one of my childhood birthday presents. I cannot remember for which birthday exactly because many decades have passed since then! In the box there were various toys and among them unfortunately very few of the original parts.

   Anyway, to make the signs I used metallic washers as the bases for better stability and balsa wood for the wooden posts.

   Then I glued the signs to the posts and some little rocks and sand to the bases.

   I overpainted the "wooden" parts of the German sign because they had a glossy brown colour! 

   After that, I added some grass and flowers. Ready!

Dragon´s teeth (fortification)

   Easy and cheap dragon´s teeth in 9 steps!

Step 1: Buy some eggs!

Step 2: Cut the plastic cover in slices.

I cut three pairs of 2, 3 and 4 teeth.

Step 3: Glue them to bases of MDF.

Step 4: Use filler to cover the teeth and leave them to dry.

Step 5: Cover with filler the bases as well. Add some sand and little rocks while the filler is still wet. Since the teeth are dry, the sand and the little rocks will stick only to the bases.

Step 6: Paint black the ground and black grey the teeth.

Step 7: Highlight the teeth with neutral grey and paint the ground flat earth.

Step 8: Highlight the teeth with sky grey and the ground with USA tan-earth and then with bonewhite. Of course, you can follow any colour scheme for the steps 6, 7 and 8 you want!

Step 9: Glue some flowers and grass. Done!
