Deads WIP

   Warriors of the Dead were the cursed folk of Dwimorberg, who wandered the hills of their land for all eternity until their oath to Isildur was met. The original ten GW warriors are very nice. Recently, I bought a box but I have other plans for them. You will see them in the future!

   Without a second thought, I decided that it was time for my unpainted warriors of Rohan to be converted to Deads. I had also the miniature of King Arvedui but not even one warrior of Arnor, so, Arvedui's destiny was to become the King of the Dead, the only hero of the Dead army. He is a king after all! Below you can see the initial steps of this army:

   The army of the Dead has a very nice but expensive for me banner bearer. One of the non used archers of Rohan became my flagman. The other parts of the conversion are: two swords and a right hand with spear from GB, as well as a part of a flag, which a friend gave me in the past. Actually, he gave me two and I have already used one for the Galadhrim banner bearer.

   "Why does the army have a dog?" a scrupulous observer may ask. The dog will bark and all the deads will have a +1 bonus to their Courage. I didn't want another hornblower miniature because I have enough already!

Lair of Shelob

   Hills made of DOW insulation material, putty and little rocks are my new cheap terrain pieces for the lair of Shelob. I used two layers of DOW for every hill. I stuck them together with white glue and secured with toothpicks. After that, I covered the horizontal surfaces with putty, stuck little rocks and sand, painted all black and highlighted first with grey and finally with light grey. The average size of the hills is 30cm x 20cm.

GB Dark Age warriors for LotR conversions

   Recently I bought a box of GB Dark Age warriors. The box has a variety of extra hands, heads, etc, which are perfect for conversions! A couple of friends asked me if there is compatibility between the GB DA warriors and the GW Lord of the Rings miniatures. They are compatible indeed. Below you can see some photos to compare the two types of miniatures:

Shades

   Shades are undead minions of Angmar. They are nice miniatures but unfortunately not in the lists of GW anymore. I had two Shades kept in the drawers for many years unpainted. It was time for them to emerge on the battlefield and show some action!

   To avoid the twin identical effect I placed one of them on a rock! I put a little orange flower on the other one's base to break the monotony of blue! Here they are:

Hornblower of Rohan

   The hornblower is the second conversion for the Rohan command set. This time I took a warrior of Rohan and I didn't replace the head of the plastic miniature but its right arm. The new arm, witch holds a horn, comes from the GB Dark Age warriors box.

King's Hunter of Rohan

   The last months I read many complains about the prices of GW around blogosphere. Most of them are related to the prices of the new Hobbit miniatures. In my opinion, the things are so simple that there is no reason to complain. Whenever I cannot afford to buy something expensive I just convert something cheap to it. It is a solution! Buy cheap plastic miniatures and convert them! The next posts will be devoted to such conversions! 
   The first of these posts is the King's hunter of Rohan. The original box set of four miniatures costs 36 euro here in Athens. The miniatures are very nice. Whoever can afford to pay 9 euro for a miniature must buy one of these boxes, I believe. I cannot, so I took a plastic archer, replaced his head and here he is:

   I used a bald head from GB Dark Age warriors for understandable reasons! I placed the hunter on a rock to distinguish him from the rest warriors. Some green stuff for the hair and the hunter is ready for action! That's all I have done! Enjoy!
