Cows, dead & alive

The Farmyard Animal box of Warlord Games includes four plastic models of cows. I had a couple of metal models of dead cows, which I added to these four and my cattle herd for the battlefield was ready!

The herd

Though I really like the Holstein breed with their distinctive black and white markings, I chose to follow a monochromatic brown color scheme, which was far easier!

The herd took part as terrain pieces during one of our games, where an Italian Blackshirts force fought against the Red Army somewhere on the Eastern Front.

Unfortunately for the Red Army, Antonios' Blackshirts were victorious!

More animals and an exhibition

I bought the Farmyard Animals box of Warlord Games to add some animals to our battlefields. The box has geese, chicken, sheep and pigs among others. I also had a dead horse to add some drama!

Recently, I visited the annual exhibition of static models in Chania. The majority of the models were airplanes in 1/48 scale and tanks in 1/35. I took photos of a very nice diorama and a couple of interesting models, one of each of the three domains of warfare.

The last is a model of Nikolai Polikarpov, a Soviet aeronautical engineer and aircraft designer known as the "King of Figthers"!

More hedges

I added some more hedges and a couple of trees as terrain pieces for our Bolt Action games. Some of the hedges are made of green cleaning sponges, which I covered with underbrush of various green shades from Woodland Scenics and glued them on mdf bases.

I also had a plastic tree trunk, which I cut in two parts, glued them on balsa wooden pieces,  used some green stuff and added lichen in order to make two nice little trees.

We used all the hedges and the trees on the battlefield during a game Germans vs British. Antonios, my friend, with his British was victorious!

That's all for today! Stay tuned for more!
